What will eventually determine how AI benefits organizations isn’t technology.
It’s people.
People determine how AI gets used.
Culture determines how smart they’ll be about it.
The need for a strong AI Culture
The norms, behaviors, rituals, and incentives that help people adapt and thrive in the era of AI.
Across sectors, a technology revolution fueled by artificial intelligence is transforming business and society. In response, organizations are defining their AI strategies and investing in AI systems and processes. These steps are essential, but insufficient. Putting systems and processes in place does not mean people will adopt them. Employees will use AI to its fullest potential only when they understand it and when they’re equipped and incentivized to make the most of it.
This requires building a strong AI culture.
How to build a strong AI Culture
For thirty years, SYPartners has partnered with organizations to shape their cultures, and we are increasingly helping companies align their adoption of AI with their corporate values and business strategies. Over the past year, we have spoken to technology, data, legal, policy, and HR leaders from 25 companies across 13 industries to understand what is held in common among those organizational cultures that successfully leverage the benefits of AI.
Based on these conversations, we’ve identified the following practices. They all answer the same question: How can organizations build cultures that mobilize people to make the most of AI — for everyone’s benefit?
